What is Self-Care?

When it’s said self-care, mostly we think about nutrition, facials, body lotions, physical exercises, massage; mainly “taking care of the body”. Which is also so important but the real meaning of self-care is prioritizing your own needs and wants for your own well-being and happiness. Self-care is always listening to your intuition and trusting that you know the best for yourself.

It’s ok not to answer the phone if you do not want to.
It’s ok to say no to something that you don’t feel like being a part of.
It’s ok to not reply to all the messages that you receive.
It’s ok to take your time and retreat.
It’s ok to just share your decisions and not explain why.
It’s ok not wanting to see anyone and enjoy your solitude.
It’s ok not to accept the gifts your friend got for you.

We all tend to fall into people-pleasing patterns by betraying our own needs to get validation from our beloved ones. We all carry the burden of nonsensical expectations that others put on our shoulders.

It’s ok to say no to others’ expectations for your highest good.

Do not get confused about accountability and expectations.

“Accountability” is the liability and justification for your own acts and behaviors. Everyone needs to take accountability for their decisions, behaviors, and the results of their actions. But expectations are not on you. “Expectation” is someone else’s belief about what will or is supposed to happen. And it is not your problem.

You don’t have to give a status report to others not to make them worry.
You do not have to let your beloved ones know where you are, or what you’re doing just to relieve them.
You do not have to give priority to others just to make them happy.
You are not responsible for other people’s emotions.

So do not fall for these expectations that are embedded within our culture and society. Do not fall for these little manipulations that are caused by the lack of trust in life.

Self-care is always setting your own needs as a priority.

If your cup is not full you can not pour into others’.

You gotta shine first, to illuminate your beloved ones.

Aho! ✨🌿🌸
