Let’s Talk a Little About Yoga

Yoga! What a beautiful body discipline! It’s so fancy and elegant to post some cool postures on IG, isn’t it? But seriously, let’s talk more about what yoga really is.

Yoga means union in Sanskrit and it’s a philosophy which exists for over 5000 years.

Union of body, mind, and spirit.

It is not just asanas (postures), it is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices. Asanas are just one limb of the eight limbs of yoga. And if you only focus on the body postures, you miss out on all the beauty in yoga.

The limbs of yoga philosophy are like the steps that lead us to nirvana which starts with the sense of integrity (Yama), self-discipline and observances (Niyama), body discipline (Asana), breath control (Pranayama), withdrawal and detachment (Pratyahara), focus and concentration (Dharana), meditation (Dyana), and lastly reaches to peace and ecstasy of being (Samadhi).

Yoga is a philosophy to understand life, to understand this human-machine.

If you’re learning or teaching yoga, and if you really wanna benefit from this beautiful teaching; first focus on the other 7/8 rather than postures.

When you focus on the rest, believe me, it’s way easier to reach any posture since the mind starts to break free from all its limitations.
